Former Wildcat Matthew Negri Qualifies for PGA Tour-China

HAIKOU, China — Former Northwestern golfer Matthew Negri tied for seventh place in the PGA Tour-China's qualifying tournament in early February, making him eligible to join the tour for all tournaments during the 2018 season.
Prior to joining the PGA Tour-China, Negri played on the PGA Tour-Latinoamérica for two starts during 2016. His best finish came at the Mazatlán Open in Mazatlán, Mexico, where he tied for eighth overall, shooting 11 under par.
During 2017, he played in eight tournaments — six on the Asian Development Tour and two on the KPGA Korean Tour — where he gained enough experience to eventually land him on the PGA Tour-China.
Negri played golf at Northwestern from 2011-15, where he competed in a total of 34 events. His best season came in his senior campaign, when he posted a scoring average of 73.81. He graduated in 2015 with a degree in communication studies.
The PGA Tour-China started in 2014 as part of the PGA Tour's global expansion. It offers a path to the Web.com Tour for top finishers and also offers Official World Golf Ranking points to the top-six finishers at each tournament.
The top five finishers on the Order of Merit at season's end receive promotion to the Web.com tour.
After graduating from Northwestern, Negri took a job as a wholesale insurance broker for seven months, but decided instead to pursue his dream of playing professional golf. He hails from El Cajon, California, where in high school he was the medalist in 34 out of 44 competitions.
