EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern welcomes No. 5 Michigan to the new Welsh-Ryan Arena for its Big Ten home opener Tuesday night. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. CT.

The Wildcats (6-2, 0-1 Big Ten) complete their December Big Ten slate against a Wolverines team that is 8-0 to start the season. The 'Cats dropped a tight 68-66 contest at Indiana their last time out in their conference opener on Saturday.

Senior center Dererk Pardon had one of the best performances of his career against the Hoosiers, dropping 24 points and 10 rebounds on 11-of-15 shooting from the field. The big man has four double-doubles this season and leads the conference in offensive rebounds per game (4.5) and is third in field goal percentage (62.5 percent).

Senior forward Vic Law has kept up his hot start to the season through eight contests, averaging a team-high 17.6 points per game. Law is shooting a career best 44.7 percent from three-point range and also leads the team in assists per game.

Michigan jumped into the top-five nationally after an impressive week, downing No. 11 North Carolina in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, 84-67, and knocking off No. 19 Purdue, 76-57. Michigan also toppled No. 8 Villanova in November in a rematch of the national title game from last season.

Northwestern has won its last three home games against Michigan, handing the Wolverines their last regular season loss this past February at Allstate Arena. The last time the Maize and Blue traveled to Evanston in March of 2017, Northwestern won 67-65 on a memorable buzzer-beater by Pardon.
