ANN ARBOR, MICH. – After three days of play, junior Dominik Stary brought home the Big Ten Singles championship from the Big Ten Singles and Doubles Championship hosted by the University of Michigan.
Stary played his way through some of the Big Ten's top talent in order to secure this second Big Ten singles championship title in three years. In the quarterfinals Stary brought down Michigan's Johnston in three set (1-6, 6-2,6-0). Advancing to the semifinals, the junior made quick work of Kobelt of OSU in two matches (6-4,7-6 (2)) and was set to face off against Siebert of OSU. In the finals, Stary took the first set in a quick 6-2 victory, and would play a 7-6(4) second set to best Siebert.
This is the third year in a row that the 'Cats have brought the Big Ten Single title back to Evanston. Last season as a first year, Antonioni Fasano won it for the Wildcats and Stary won the title in the 2016 season, also as a first year.
The 'Cats will be back in action next weekend for the Minnesota Mock Duals which are set to kick off October 2-4 in Minneapolis.
