10/28/2018 2:42:00 PM | Men's Golf
First-year David Nyfjäll earned his second consecutive individual championship with a 5-under performance at the UNCG/Grandover Collegiate in Greensboro, North Carolina.
UNCG/Grandover Collegiate Final Stats
Starting the final round with a six shot deficit, Nyfjäll had an outstanding front nine with three birdies in a row that tied him for first and later took the lone lead on the 14th hole after a bogey from his tied competitor from UNCG. The Uppsala, Sweden native has totaled 48 birdies this season.
Nyfjäll is the third player in Northwestern history to win the event individually. He joins Dylan Wu (2017) and David Lipsky (2010) as UNCG/Grandover Collegiate individual champions. After earning co-medalist honors at the Chatham Hills Collegiate, the first year Wildcat joins the ranks of elite Northwestern golfers like Luke Donald and Jess Daley who have won back-to-back events.
Junior Everton Hawkins picked up his third-straight top-20 finish at 14 and as a team, the Wildcats placed for third overall, making the event their third straight top-three finish this year.
The Wildcats are back in action February 8-9, 2019 at Big Ten Match Play in Palm Coast, Fla.
