Doubles Team of Brookes and Bratholm Advances to Quarterfinals at ITA Midwest Regional

SOUTH BEND, IND. – After four days of play, the 'Cats return home with a Top 16 finish in the singles competition and Top 8 in doubles from the ITA Midwest Regional Championship.
The 'Cats started the weekend strong with five athletes advancing through prequalification and the first round of singles match play. In the round of 64, Nick Brookes had a dominant win over Kolaric of Illinois State winning in two sets (6-1, 6-1). Simen Bratholm also took down Western Michigan's Kuszynski in two sets (6-3, 7-6) and Michael Lorenzini defeated Marquette's Verdu (7-6, 6-2). Ben Vandixhorn made quick work of Notre Dame's Small (6-3, 6-2) and Dominik Stary was able to overtake Optiz of Western Michigan after three sets of play (3,6, 7-6, 6-2).
Brookes continued to advance through the brackets defeating Kobel of Ohio State (3-6, 6-4, 6-3), before falling to Kovacevic of Illinois just shy of the quarterfinal match.
The Wildcats doubles team of Bratholm and Brookes played through two prelim rounds, convincingly defeating Green Bay (8-3) and Western Michigan (8-4) before taking it to the wire in quarterfinals and dropping the match to Joyce and Hunter of Ohio State (8-6).
The Wildcats ended the weekend with 11 total match wins from the tournament.
The 'Cats will be back in action October 26-29 as Michigan hosts the Big Ten Indoor Single/Doubles Championship.
