Nyfjäll’s 11-Under Day Leads Northwestern at Chatham Hills

WESTFIELD, Ind. — Northwestern men's golf is only two strokes off the lead after day one of the Chatham Hills Collegiate at The Club at Chatham Hills on Sunday.
The Wildcats carded two rounds of 8-under golf, equaling a 16-under total after day one. Marquette is in first place at 18-under.
NU was paced by a sterling effort by first-year David Nyfjäll, who leads the tournament with his 11-under, two-round output. He paces all other entrants by four strokes — a pair of players are tied for second at 7-under.
Nyfjäll carded a first-round score of 65 (-7), tied for the 10th best single-round score in program history. His 13 birdies through 36 holes pace all competitors.
All five 'Cats in the starting lineup are in the top-30, including three in the top-20.
Junior Everton Hawkins went 70-71 in day one to sit in a ninth-place tie with his 3-under total, which included a field-best two eagles. Senior Ryan Lumsden, coming off of back-to-back Big Ten Golfer of the Week nods, is 1-under and in 16th place.
Sophomore Eric McIntosh is tied for 25th with an even-par 144, while first-year Lucas Becht is tied for 29th at 1-over (73-72). Sophomore Harrison Murphy, entered as an individual, is tied for 42nd at 4-over, including a career-best 72 in his second round.
The Wildcats tee off the final round starting at 8:20 a.m. from the first tee. Murphy will tee off the 10th tee at 9:10 a.m.
