EVANSTON, Ill. – No. 25 Northwestern welcomes Purdue to Martin Stadium on Sunday for a Senior Day matchup at 2:30 p.m.
The Wildcats are 9-4-2 on the season and 3-4-2 in conference. After beating Indiana on Thursday, 2-1, Northwestern moved into a three-way tie for eighth place in the Big Ten with 10 points. Purdue sits in 13th place with five points.
The Wildcats came from behind to beat the Hoosiers featuring a goal from senior Brenna Lovera and a game-winner from sophomore Nia Harris. The assists came from first year Julietta Thron and sophomore Regan Steigleder while first year Mackenzie Wood made a massive save on a penalty kick while the game was tied at 1-1.
Lovera's goal was the seventh of the season and the 17th of her career. She is now tied for ninth on the all-time goals list at Northwestern and seven goals is a career-high for her in a season, besting her previous two-time output of six.
Senior Marisa Viggiano did not start the contest on Thursday, officially marking her consecutive games started streak at 82, the third-longest streak in program history. Her fellow classmate Kayla Sharples is still active with a streak of 83, six short of the program record set by goalkeeper Lauren Clem in 2017.
Before kickoff on Sunday, Northwestern will honor its 11-member senior class, which is now the winningest class in program history with 51 wins and counting. The class has led Northwestern to three straight trips to the NCAA Tournament, advancing at least one round each time, and also helped secure the first ever Big Ten title in program history in 2016.
While Purdue holds an edge in the all-time series, the 'Cats have won three out of the last four matchups including a Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal 1-0 win last season in Evanston featuring an 87th minute goal from Michele Chernesky.
