EVANSTON, Ill. -- No. 14 Northwestern returns to Lakeside Field to open the home portion of its season, facing off against Temple at 1 p.m. Friday before squaring off with Kent State at 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

The Wildcats (2-3) are coming off a challenging five-match road trip to open the campaign. Four of the team's contests were played against teams ranked in the top 13 in the nation.

NU dropped a pair of tight one-goal decisions in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, last weekend, falling 3-2 in double overtime to then-No. 12 Boston College before being edged by then-No. 2 Duke on Sunday, 1-0. The Eagles jumped to No. 8 in this week's Penn Monto/NFHCA poll while the Blue Devils rose to No. 1.

Redshirt sophomore Annie Kalfas has been impressive in goal for the Wildcats, sporting a 1.50 goals-against average with a .848 save percentage. She made a combined 22 saves in last weekend's two matches, including a career-best 13 stops against Boston College.

Eva van Agt paces the Northwestern attack with two goals while five others have also contributed tallies. Puck Pentenga is the team leader with 25 shots, including 10 on target.

Northwestern won its home opener a year ago when it topped Ball State, 5-0, while holding a 23-0 edge in shots.

Scouting Temple
The Owls (0-3) are still searching for their first win, most recently falling 5-0 to Penn State last Friday. Rachael Mueller and Sarah Keer have accounted for the team's two goals to date this season while Maddie Lilliock has a 4.09 goals-against average and a .647 save percentage. Northwestern leads its all-time series with Temple, 4-2. This will be the first meeting between the schools in Evanston. NU won the most recent matchup, 4-0, Sept. 20, 2015 in Philadelphia.

Scouting Kent State
The Golden Flashes bring a 2-3 record into Saturday's match against Temple in Evanston. Kent State is coming off a 2-1 win at Ohio State on Tuesday. Northwestern will be the team's third Big Ten opponent to date as it also fell at Rutgers, 4-1. Helen Harper and Ines Delpech have two goals apiece. Kylie LeBlanc (1.18 gaa, .857 save %) played behind Azure Fernsler to open the season in goal but is coming off playing the entire match in goal against Ohio State. NU is 8-4 all-time against Kent State, including a 4-1 win in Kent Sept. 18 of last season.
