EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern head men's golf coach David Inglis has signed a contract extension through the 2021 season, Vice President for Athletics and Recreation Jim Phillips announced on Thursday.

"David is a tremendous fit at Northwestern and we are thrilled to have him at the helm of our golf program for years to come," said Phillips. "His commitment to recruiting, mentoring, and developing world-class student-athletes in the classroom, the community and in competition, is second-to-none. Wildcats men's golf has a rich history thanks to its strong leadership, and we look forward to even more success in the future under David and Pat Goss."

"I am incredibly thankful to Dr. Phillips, President Schapiro, and Pat Goss for the extension they have given me to continue my career as head coach at Northwestern," Inglis said. "Since coming here as an assistant coach seven years ago, I have loved every minute. Both my wife, Lindsay, and I are excited to make Evanston our home for many years to come.

"We have made steady progress over the last few years and return two first-team All-Big Ten players this fall in Dylan Wu and Ryan Lumsden. With great players recruited in the future, I believe we are on the cusp of another strong stretch for Northwestern golf."

Inglis, a native of Edinburgh, Scotland, joined Northwestern prior to the 2010-11 season as its assistant coach. In 2014, he was elevated to head coach of the men's program, with Pat Goss taking over as the Director of Golf and Player Development for the men's and women's programs.

The men's golf program has improved each of the three years of Inglis' head-coaching tenure, culminating in 2017 with a second-place finish at the Big Ten Championships and a fifth-place tie at the NCAA Regionals, narrowly missing an NCAA Championship berth.

"I couldn't be more excited for David," said Goss. "The reorganization and promotion of David three years ago by Dr. Phillips has been a great positive for our program, and I'm excited to build on the foundational success we have had. David is a great mentor and leader for our current players, and the recruiting has been incredibly strong. The program is on excellent footing and braced for success in the coming seasons."

Inglis, an NCAA All-American during his playing career at Tulsa, has been the head coach for senior Dylan Wu for every year of his collegiate career and helped lead him to All-America honors in 2017 and the second-lowest career scoring average in program history with one year remaining at Northwestern.

An accomplished member of the international golf community, Inglis became the first person to play and coach at the prestigious Palmer Cup, which features the best collegiate golfers from the United States and Europe. He helmed Team Europe at the 2017 edition of the Palmer Cup at the Atlanta Athletic Club.

"David has embraced what makes Northwestern such a special and unique place in the college athletics world and his desire to remain at Northwestern is evidence of his belief in our University, athletic department and golf program," said Goss. "I look forward to working next to him every day as we pursue our goals of winning Big Ten Championships, competing for national championships, and developing high-caliber players who are ready to pursue their goals of playing professional golf."
