EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern men's golf junior Dylan Wu has been named a semifinalist for the 2017 Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award.
"It's an honor to be considered for any national award, but an award named after Jack Nicklaus is something even more special," said Wu. "I just am thankful for all of my teammates and coaches who push me to be my best and have helped me this entire season."
Wu was recently named a unanimous selection to the First Team All-Big Ten and was the winner of the 2017 Les Bolstad Award, given annually to the golfer with the lowest season stroke average in the Big Ten.
"Dylan has played great this season and it's a credit to all his hard work and determination so far that he has been recognized as a candidate for such a prestigious award," said head coach David Inglis.
The Medford, Oregon, native leads the Wildcats and is 17th-lowest stroke average in the nation (70.28).
The junior also leads the Wildcats in rounds of par or better (22), rounds in the 60s) (11), and top-five finishes (5). He has notched a top-12 finish in every tournament he has played in this season.
Division I finalists will be named May 25 and the five recipients will be announced June 1. The honor will be presented by Jack Nicklaus at a ceremony during the final round of the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio.
In addition to receiving the Jack Nicklaus Award, the recipients will compete in the Barbasol Shootout for an exemption into the PGA TOUR's Barbasol Championship, held July 20-23, at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Opelika, Alabama. The Shootout will be held July 3 at Scioto Country Club in Columbus, Ohio.
Northwestern will learn its fate for NCAA Regionals on Thursday, May 4, with a special on Golf Channel at 11 a.m. CT.
