RIO GRANDE, Puerto RicoRyan Lumsden turned in the best round of his college career on Tuesday to rocket up the leaderboard and earn a Top-3 finish at the 25th Puerto Rico Classic. The sophomore carded two eagles in a three-hole stretch early in his round on the way to a 6-under 66.

The London native began Tuesday's third-and-final round in a tie for 23rd place and, after teeing off on No. 8, opened his loop with a birdie and bogey back-to-back. But he then burst out of the turn to eagle the 562-yard, Par-5 No. 11 and the 289-yard, Par-4 No. 11, and then birdie the 544-yard, Par-5 No. 15. He added another birdie on No. 4 to polish off a 66, the lowest 18-hole score of any Wildcats golfer this season.

Lumsden played Rio Mar's four Par-5 offerings at 5-under on Tuesday, with three birdies to go along with the eagle on No. 11. Over the course of the weekend he was 7-under on Par-5 offerings, best in the elite 74-player field in Puerto Rico.

Teammate Dylan Wu birdied three of his first five holes and the only blemish on his scorecard was a double-bogey on his final hole of the day. Despite that, Wu turned in a 2-under 70 and rose into a tie for 12th on the leaderboard. Lumsden and Wu tied for the tournament lead with 39 pars in 54 holes.

"We got a great final round from Ryan and Dylan was very solid as well," head coach David Inglis said after the Wildcats finished up on Tuesday. "It's disappointing to have two really good rounds and have to count a 77 and 80 towards the team score. We need to regroup, have a really good week of practice and be ready for Desert Mountain next week."

The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, March 3, at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate in Scottsdale, Arizona.
