With the win, the Wildcats improved to a Big Ten-best 25-5 all-time in the competition. Northwestern is in search of its fourth Match Play Championship title after a runner-up finish a year ago.

Triplett captured six of the first seven holes after opening the match on the Conservatory Course's No. 10, before dropping his only hole of the day on No 17, and ultimately finishing off Gray on Nos. 1 and 2 to be the first Wildcats golfer into the clubhouse.

Ryan Lumsden surrendered his first hole of the day, No. 8, but took four of five from Nos. 12-16 and never looked back on his way to a 4&3 victory. Everton Hawkins opened up with a win on No. 10 and never surrendered the lead in a 4&3 win.

Both Conor Richardson and Andrew Whalen finished strong to secure all square results in the quarterfinal match, with Richardson erasing a two-down deficit with only two holes to go, and Whalen overcoming a two-down score over the final four holes of the round.

The most compelling match of the day may have been the one that Northwestern dropped to the Scarlet Knights. In a heavyweight battle, junior Dylan Wu and Rutgers' Toks Pedro combined for 10 birdies and missed only two greens all afternoon. Wu fired a 4-under but fell 2&1.

The Wildcats will face seventh-seeded Minnesota, who upset No. 2 Michigan with tiebreakers, in Saturday morning's semi-final round. . The other semi-final will feature No. 5 Penn State vs. No. 8 Iowa, with the winners meeting on Saturday afternoon.
