EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern head coach David Inglis announced the signing of David Nyfjäll, one of the top amateur golfers in Sweden, to a National Letter of Intent. He will join the Wildcats for the fall of 2018.
"I couldn't be more excited to welcome David to the Northwestern Golf family," said Inglis. "He is a tremendous young man with an outstanding work ethic and over the last two years and has developed into one of the best junior players in Europe. He is a perfect fit for Northwestern and I expect him to make an immediate impact on our team next year."
Nyfjäll, who won the 2017 Swedish Junior Match Play Championship, will be the third player from the program's last four recruiting classes to hail from Europe, joining Ryan Lumsden (England) and Eric McIntosh (Scotland).
"David is an incredibly mature player with significant international playing experience, which will help greatly in his transition to college golf," said Pat Goss, Northwestern director of golf and player development. "His values align with our program and athletic department values, and he is the exact type of student-athlete who has succeeded at Northwestern. I look forward to being part of his development over the next four years."
As a member of the Continent of Europe team, the Uppsala, Sweden, native helped secure the Continent's second-straight Jacques Léglise trophy, the under-18 equivalent of the St. Andrews Trophy, in September. Nyfjäll joins former Wildcat Luke Donald as players to win the Jacques Léglise trophy, with Donald earning the honor in 1999 for Great Britain & Ireland.
