EVANSTON, Ill. — The Northwestern men's swimming and diving team is back in action this weekend, taking on Wisconsin at the Norris Aquatics Center. The Big Ten match-up is set for 9 a.m. CT, on Saturday, October 11.
The Wildcats return to the pool after a two-day quad meet at the SIU Invitational in Carbondale, Illinois. Though the team fell to Missouri and Kentucky, it topped host Southern Illinois, 203-134. Top results came from the 'Cats relay teams, and first-year DJ Hwang continued his strong start to the season.
Northwestern opened the meet with a third-place finish in the 200 free relay, swam by first-year Keegan Bundy, juniors Ryan Tate and Will Hofstadter, and senior Almog Olshtein. The 200 and 400 medley relay teams followed up with two fifth-place finishes.
Hwang was the Wildcats' top finisher in the 1000 free, taking fifth place. In the 1000 free, Hwang has placed in the top five in all five of the team's meets for the season, and has taken the top spot three times.
Wisconsin faces both Minnesota and Green Bay before travelling to Northwestern.
In their most recent event, the Badgers topped Penn State, but fell to Michigan and Minnesota in a two-day quad dual. The meet's top performers were Matt Novinski and Todd McCarthy, with Novinski claiming a first-place finish in the 100 back, and McCarthy
winning the 200 back, followed by Novinski in fourth.
In the last two match-ups between the Wildcats and the Badgers, Wisconsin came out with the victories. Olshtein helped the 200 free and 200 relay teams to two second-place finishes in 2014, and nabbed two victories in 2015 in the 50 free and the 100 free.
