Lumsden's Strong Opening Round Leads NU in Day One of Windon Memorial

SKOKIE, Ill. — Junior Ryan Lumsden's career high-tying 4-under 66 in the first round of the 21st Windon Memorial Classic highlighted Northwestern's day on Sunday at Evanston Golf Club.

Round two's play has been suspended due to darkness, with all five NU starters wrapping up before the crepuscular sky overwhelmed. Seven groups have yet to conclude the second round.
The outstanding golfers will restart Monday morning at 7:30 a.m. CT to conclude the second round, then the field will be re-paired for a 10 a.m. CT final round shotgun start.
Lumsden, who is currently tied for 14th, logged six birdies en route to his first-round score.
As a team, Northwestern finished the first round at a 4-under 276 clip, tied for the tenth-best single-round score in Windon history, and the best single-round result for Northwestern since notching a 274 total almost a year ago, at the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate (Oct. 30-31, 2016).
Sophomore Everton Hawkins leads all Wildcats with his even-par tally through 36 holes.
The Irvine, California, native is tied for 12th, thanks in part to his first round 67, tied for his best round in Purple and White (also, Bridgestone Golf Collegiate and Desert Mountain Intercollegiate in the 2016-17 campaign). Hawkins took part in one of 20 eagles on the sixth hole thus far on the route to his 3-under score.
Senior Dylan Wu, who owns a 1-over 141 (70-71) through two rounds, is also tied at 14th with Lumsden.
The Wildcats are 2-over through 36 holes, which puts them in sole possession of fifth place, trailing leader Penn State by only five strokes.
In all, four Wildcats sit in the top-25, as senior Sam Triplett's 2-over score places him in a tie for 22nd place. Triplett also notched an eagle on six, this one coming in the second round. He finished with a 1-under 69, the best among all Wildcat golfers in the second round.
