
Northwestern Faces Purdue and Minnesota In Tri-Dual Meet

EVANSTON, Ill. – The Northwestern men's and women's swimming and diving teams will travel to West Lafayette, Ind. on Friday for a two day conference tri-dual meet against Minnesota and Purdue.
The annual Big Ten Triple Duals starts at 6 p.m. Friday and resumes Saturday at noon. The event will be the last of the regular season for both teams before the Big Ten Championships at the end of February.
Last time out, the men's team won nine events at Iowa including a win in the 200 medley relay from Nick Petersen, Will Hofstadter, Ryan Tate and Almog Olshtein.
Jordan Wilimovsky swept the distance events with a 4:27.96 first place finish in the 500 free and a 9:06.47 first place finish in the 1,000 free.
Almog Olshtein won the 50 free for the second week in a row with a time of 20.39. Andrew Cramer also won the platform diving event with an impressive score of 340.20.
The women's team narrowly lost to the Hawkeyes 156-144 despite winning seven individual events. Freshman Valerie Gruest Slowing added to her outstanding first season with victories in the 1,000 free (10:16.07), 200 fly (2:00.48), and 500 free (4:53.85).
Mary Warren and Lacey Locke added first place finishes for the 'Cats, with Warren taking the 50 free in 23.30 and Locke winning the 200 back in 2:00.22.
Olivia Rosendahl impressed on the diving boards, winning the 1-meter with a score of 292.10, and the platform with a Zone Standard and season-best score of 307.40.
The Golden Gophers are ranked 16th in the country for both their men's and women's programs. Last season at the same meet hosted in Evanston, both teams swept the 'Cats and the Boilermakers.
Minnesota is led by diver Yu Zhou, a senior who was Big Ten Diver of the Year last season and finished top-five at the NCAA Championships in two events.
Purdue's men's team is led by Steele Johnson, who has 14 individual victories this year across the three diving events. The women's team is led by Kaersten Meitz who holds NCAA 'B' cut times in the 100 free, 200 free, 500, free and 1,650 free.
