Wildcats Finish 11th Overall at Fighting Illini Invitational

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – Northwestern finished its first tournament of the 2016-17 season with an 11th-place team finish at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational, hosted by No. 3 Illinois at Olympia Fields Country Club.

The team's tournament-best 11-over 291 in Sunday's final left them in 11th place among the 15-team field and 42-over 882 after 54 holes.

Illinois ran away with the team title at 5-over 845, 13 strokes ahead of second-place Oklahoma State.

Dylan Wu had NU's top overall finish of the tournament with a 12th-place effort. The junior shot 1-over 71 on Sunday, including three birdies. Wu closed out the tournament 3-over 213.

Sophomore Ryan Lumsden had the most successful final round for the Wildcats, carding a team-best four birdies en route to an even-par 70 round. Lumsden finished the tournament tied for 36th overall in the individual standings, shooting 11-over 221 through three days of competition.

The Wildcats are back in action when they host the Windon Memorial Classic, beginning Sunday, Sept. 25, at North Shore Country Club.
