EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern men's golf tees of the 2016-17 season on Friday at the Olympia Fields Country Club/Fighting Illini Invitational, hosted by Big Ten foe Illinois.

Now in it's 11th season, the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational welcomes the nation's top teams to the famed Olympia Fields Country Club. The club is home to several premier events including the 2015 U.S. Amateur. Olympia Fields has hosted two U.S. Opens, two PGA Championships, five Western Opens and a U.S. Senior Open among other high-level tournaments.

The Olympia Fields North Course will play to a 7,205-yard, par-70 layout for the tournament with 18 holes on each of the event's three days. Tee times Friday and Saturday begin at 9 a.m. CT, while Sunday's final round gets underway at 8 a.m. CT.

The field consists of seven teams that landed on the 2015-16 Bushnell Golfweek Preseason Coaches Poll, including third-ranked host Illinois and top-ranked Texas.

Junior Dylan Wu will pace the Wildcats after an outstanding sophomore campaign. Wu led the Wildcats in almost every statistical category last year, including a pair of third place finishes at The Boilermaker and Northwestern's home tournament - the Windon Memorial. The junior led the 'Cats in the individual standings at his second-career Big Ten Championships, finishing sixth overall at 3-under 213 and was named to the All-Big Ten second team. He capped off his sophomore campaign with a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Stillwater Regional.

Redshirt-senior Andrew Whalen will also compete for the Wildcats this weekend. He finished the 2015-16 year ranked third for the Wildcats in full-season stroke average at 73.97 with 12 rounds at par or better. Whalen collected three top 10 finishes last season, including a sixth-place rank at the Bridgestone Collegiate.

Ryan Lumsden, a sophomore from London, returns to action at the Illini Invite after finishing his rookie campaign ranked second for NU in stroke average at 73.92 with two top-10 rankings. He capped off the year with a 32nd-place finish at the Big Ten Tournament and finished 22nd overall at the NCAA Stillwater Regional.

Wu, Whalen and Lumsden were all recently named to the 2016-17 Big Ten Golfers to Watch list.

Luke Miller and Sam Triplett will also make their 2016-17 debuts with the #B1GCats this weekend.
