Harrisonburg, Va. — Northwestern scored three second-half goals to top James Madison, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon in the James Madison Tournament.
Grace Orndorff, Maddy Lucas and Brenna Lovera each tallied a goal in the contest, while Kayla Sharples and Marisa Viggiano recorded assists.
Lauren Clem had two saves and kept JMU off the scoreboard for her second consecutive shutout and 24th of her career. Her 24 career shutouts match a program record that was set by Wendy Scholz, 1994-97.
The Wildcats got on the board in the 63rd minute when Sharples put a free kick off the post and Orndorff was there for rebound goal.
Viggiano created the second goal in the 84th minute sending in a low pass from the left side that found Lucas, who scored from eight yards out.
A JMU foul in the box gave Northwestern a penalty kick in the 87th minute. Lovera hammered home the penalty kick to seal the win for the Wildcats.
Northwestern will continue its four-game road swing on Thursday, Aug. 25, when it makes the short trip to DePaul for a 3 p.m. kick.
