Men's Golf #B1G Champs Preview

#B1GCats Tee Off at Big Ten Championships Friday

EVANSTON, Ill. – The Wildcats tee off at the 2016 Big Ten Men's Golf Championships on Friday, April 22, at the Victoria National Golf Club in Newburgh, Indiana. The 52-hole Championships takes place over three days, and the 'Cats come into the event with some momentum.

Chicago's Big Ten Team enters postseason play after tying a season-best third place showing at Purdue's Boilermaker last weekend, as the Wildcats defeated four other B1G opponents. NU had garnered momentum in the two tournaments prior, as they posted the best team score – by seven strokes - in the second round of the weather-shortened Kepler Invitational, and finished eighth in the 26-team field at the 2016 Goodwin, ahead of then-No. 1 USC.

Head coach David Inglis will send out a pair of seniors, as well as a pair of sophomores and a freshman Friday morning for 18 holes of play at the par-72, 7,239-yard Victoria National track. The third round will take place Saturday before Sunday's final round. Live results will be available courtesy of Golfstat.com.

Sophomore Dylan Wu has led the Wildcats in almost every statistical category this season, including a pair of third place finishes, including the last time out at The Boilermaker and Northwestern's home tournament - the Windon Memorial.

Senior Andrew Whalen has been on Wu's heels, stringing together an equally impressive campaign. Whalen has led the team with three top-10 finishes along with a season-best eighth-place finish at the Bridgestone Collegiate.

Senior Josh Jamieson will be attending his final Big Ten Championships after a steady career. He has been a consistent force for Chicago's Big Ten Team as he is just one of three Wildcats, along with Wu and Whalen, to participate in every tournament this year.

Sophomore Sam Triplett will be heading to his first Big Ten Championships. With the ability to score low, Triplett shot a team low for the year at 8-under 64 at the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate during the fall season. That round tied for the fourth best individual round in school history.

Freshman Ryan Lumsden rounds out the Wildcat roster after boasting a career-best round of 67 at the Boilermaker last weekend. He has proven to be a force for Northwestern this year after a pair of top-10 finishes at the Puerto Rico Classic and the Boilermaker.
