Dylan Wu, Luke Donald to Compete at NTO Collegiate Showcase

EVANSTON, Ill. – While the rest of the Wildcats open the 2016 schedule at the Big Ten Match Play Championships, sophomore Dylan Wu will be competing at the Northern Trust Open Collegiate Showcase at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., on Feb. 15.

During his freshman campaign last year, Wu led Northwestern with a 72.21 scoring average and picked up his first collegiate win in just his fourth-career event at UCLA's Gifford Collegiate in the fall. He had six top-20 finishes and three top-10s, including a fifth-place result at the NCAA New Haven Regional. He was one stroke shy of a potential berth at the NCAA National Championships with that performance.

This past fall, Wu competed in all four events for the Purple and White as a sophomore, including three top-25 performances and a third-place finish at the Windon Memorial in September.

The Collegiate Showcase is a one-day competition that is made up of 4-person teams.  Each team represents a particular university. The foursomes are comprised of a professional, two amateurs, and a collegiate player.
Wu will play alongside former world No. 1 and Northwestern alumni Luke Donald, Eric Gleacher and Steve Quamme.

Gleacher, a 1962 graduate of Northwestern, is an accomplished competitive golfer. He transferred to Northwestern his sophomore year where he earned a golf scholarship his junior and senior years. On April 22, 1998, Gleacher made a gift to the University to create a state-of-the-art indoor golf facility, now the Gleacher Center, and to endow the men's and women's golf programs.

Quamme, a 1982 Northwestern grad, was a member of the Wildcats men's tennis team.

Luke Donald, the most prolific golfer in Wildcat history, and arguably the best amateur of his era in the world, was a four-time All-American, the 1999 College Golfer of the Year, the 1999 NCAA individual champion, a three-time Big Ten Player of the Year, four-time All-Big Ten honoree, two-time Big Ten champion and a 13-time tournament medalist. Donald turned pro in August of 2001, earning his PGA TOUR card in December of 2001 through the grueling Q-School.
Within the 4-person teams, there will be two different competitions.

In one competition, the professional and the two amateurs will team up to play a best ball format (one-ball).  The low Professional and Amateurs team will take home the Champions Trophy for their school and a check for $50,000.00, going to their universities golf program.

In the second competition, the collegiate player will play his own ball to record an eighteen hole score. The low collegian will be awarded with a playing spot in the 2016 Northern Trust Open.
