
Northwestern Falls in Triple Dual to Minnesota and Purdue

EVANSTON — Northwestern fell to No. 20 Minnesota, 224-129, and Purdue, 186-167, in a Big Ten triple dual at the Norris Aquatics Center.
The highlight of the day came in the 200 back when freshman Anthony Marcantonio swam a career-best 1:47.50 to take first place. His previous top time of 1:48.83 came last vs. Iowa (Jan. 23).
Freshman Carter Page picked up another first-place finish for the Wildcats in the 500 free, swimming the event in 4:33.60. Page topped the runner-up by just over one second.
Northwestern started day two on a high note when Andy Jovanovic, Will Hofstader, Nick Petersen and Almog Olshtein teamed up to take second in the 400 medley relay. Their time of 3:20.64 edged out the third-place finishers by less than a second.
The Wildcats earned third-place finishes from sophomore Almog Olshtein (45.26) in the 100 free and from his classmate Nick Petersen (49.65) in the 100 fly.
In the final event of the afternoon, Northwestern's 200 free relay team of Olshtein, Jovanovic, Hofstadter and Steiner placed third with a time of 1:22.17.
Northwestern will take the next month to prepare for the Big Ten Championships, which will be held at Purdue on Feb. 24-27.
