EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern will host the 19th edition of the Windon Memorial Classic on Sunday and Monday, Sept. 27-28, at Lake Shore Country Club in Glencoe, Ill. The tournament will be the second contest for the Wildcats this season.
Lake Shore is an 18-hole regulation course. From the longest tees it features 6,519 yards of golf for a par of 71. The course was designed by Tom Bendelow and opened in 1908.
Play will consist of five-man teams with the best four scores counting towards the daily total. Teams will play 36 holes on Sunday and 18 holes on Monday. Participating squads feature universities from all over the country: Georgetown, Indiana, Lamar, Loyola, Marquette, Michigan, North Texas, Ohio State, Princeton, Purdue, SE Louisiana, Tulsa and UC Davis.
Northwestern captured the 2013 Windon at Knollwood Golf Club in Lake Forest, Ill., thanks to a second-place finish by then-senior Jack Perry and a third-place result by newly minted professional golfer Matt Fitzpatrick. The victory was NU's fourth in the history of the tournament.
The Windon has an illustrious history, with current PGA Tour members Luke Donald, Joe Ogilvie, Tiger Woods, Gary Woodland and Ben Curtis finishing as runners-up in the event. Donald and current PGA Tour members Hunter Mahan and Colt Knost are past champions.
NU's quintet will be sophomore Dylan Wu, senior Andrew Whalen, freshman Ryan Lumsden, senior Josh Jamieson and graduate student Harley Abrams. Freshmen Luke Miller and Pete Griffith, and sophomore Sam Triplett will play as individuals.
LAST TIMEOUT
Northwestern finished its first tournament of the 2015-16 season with an 11th-place team finish at OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational, hosted by Illinois at Olympia Fields Country Club. The team's tournament-best 8-over 288 in Sunday's final round left them in 11th place among the 15-team field at 39-over 879 on the final day of competition.
Sophomore Dylan Wu had NU's top finish of the tournament with a 20th place effort. The sophomore shot 3-over par on Sunday, including a birdie on the back nine and closed out the tournament at 6-over 216.
Freshman Luke Miller had the most successful final round for the Wildcats, carding four birdies to finish the last day at even-par 70. The rookie finished the tournament tied for 50th as an individual, shooting 13-over 223 through three days of competition.
