EVANSTON, Ill. -- Following a Spring Break spent training and playing on renowned courses like Poppy Hills, Pebble Beach and Olympic, Northwestern heads to Palo Alto, California, for Stanford's Goodwin Invitational March 26-28 at The Stanford Golf Course.

The Goodwin, formerly the US Intercollegiate, was renamed last year in honor of former Stanford and Northwestern head coach Wally Goodwin. After the NU program went through a period of club status in the late 1970s, Goodwin was hired in 1981 to help kick start the program's rebirth as a varsity sport at NU. He recruited eventual All-American Jim Benepe who would go on to earn the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year award.

After Goodwin left for Stanford in the fall of 1987, he continued to make an impact on Northwestern golf: It was Goodwin who directed an English recruit named Luke Donald to contact Pat Goss, leading to a relationship that spanned three Big Ten team titles, an NCAA individual championship and an eventual climb to the World No. 1 ranking.

While last year's inaugural staging of The Goodwin was by no means a small affair with 18 teams in the field, this year's tournament is a full blow-out event with 24 teams descending on Palo Alto. Players will tee off on holes 1 and 10 in two waves during each of the three days of play in the 54-hole event. Schools will alternate morning and afternoon waves during the first and second rounds before re-pairing for Saturday's final round.

The field is made up of No. 7 Stanford, No. 11 USC, No. 15 Oregon, No. 24 UNLV, Arizona, Boise State, BYU, Colorado, Colorado State, Denver, Loyola Marymount, Minnesota, Northwestern, Pepperdine, Princeton, USF, San Jose State, Saint Mary's, Santa Clara, Southern Methodist, Texas Christian, UAB, UC Davis and Washington State. The Stanford Golf Course plays to a par-70, 6,727-yard layout.

Live results for this tournament will be provided by Golfstat.com.

This event marks Northwestern's first competition since playing three-straight events from mid February through early March. That stretch saw the Wildcats go 3-1 at the Big Ten Match Play Championship and finish a solid third among the 15-team field at Pepperdine's Jones Sport Intercollegiate
