Lindsey’s Career Night Leads Northwestern Past New Orleans

11/28/2015 9:23:00 PM | Men's Basketball

EVANSTON, Ill. – Scottie Lindsey scored a career high 26 points to help lead Northwestern (5-1) to a 90-63 win over New Orleans Saturday night at Welsh-Ryan Arena.

Lindsey shot 75 percent from the field, including making 6-of-7 shots from three.

"I felt really good," Lindsey said. "My teammates found me for open threes early. My shot was feeling good, so I kept being aggressive."

Four Wildcats scored in double figures, as Lindsey was joined by Tre Demps (16), Bryant McIntosh (13) and Gavin Skelly (10).

"He is a big X-factor for us," head coach Chris Collins said of Lindsey. "When he is rolling like that, it makes us that much more dangerous."

Chicago's Big Ten Team shot 55 percent from the field, 46 percent from three-point range and made 14 of 15 from the free throw line in the team's best offensive performance to date.

McIntosh dished out seven assists, while Demps added five. Skelly and center Alex Olah each grabbed eight rebounds, and Olah blocked a career high six shots.

Northwestern led for all but 32 seconds of the game.

The Wildcats came out firing on all cylinders in the first half, scoring 48 points while shooting over 58 percent from the floor. Northwestern shot 58 percent from beyond the arc as well, with four different players knocking down triples in the half.

Demps scored the first 10 Northwestern points of the game on 4-of-4 shooting and poured in 14 total first-half points.

Northwestern grabbed a double-digit lead less than eight minutes into the game and continued to extend it, building up a 23-point advantage at halftime. The 'Cats used a 13-0 run midway through the half to grab control. New Orleans led only once, a 2-0 lead in the first minute of the game.

The Wildcats continued to build on their lead, stretching it out to 33 late in the second half, the largest lead of the game before finishing it off to improve to 4-0 at Welsh-Ryan Arena this season.

"Getting that big lead at halftime was huge," Collins said. "The longer you let a team that scrappy hang around they will have a lot of belief and make it a dog fight down the stretch."

Chicago's Big Ten Team heads to Blacksburg, Virginia, on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. tip at Virginia Tech. The game is part of the annual Big Ten/ACC Challenge and will be televised on ESPNU.
