EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's men's swimming and diving team sits in third place following the opening day of competition Friday at the annual TYR Invitational at Norris Aquatics Center.

Andy Jovanovic posted the top finish of the day for the Wildcats as he placed second in the 50 yard backstroke in a time of 22.82. Grant Halsall contributed a fourth-place finish in the event (23.34) for NU, while Nick Petersen was sixth (23.62) and Alex Snarski placed seventh (23.65).

Northwestern earned a trio of third-place finishes on the evening. Freshman Carter Page posted a time of 4:28.76, just under a second away from earning a first-place standing. On the 1-meter diving board, Andrew Cramer posted a score of 293.05 to earn his third-place finish.

Anthony Marcantonio also picked up a bronze performance by finishing the 200 yard IM in 1:49.97. He also contributed a fifth-place finish Friday in the 50 yard breaststroke (26.10). Thanas Kountroubis pitched in with an eighth-place finish in the event (26.37).

Almog Olshtein also appeared in a championship final for Northwestern on Friday as he earned a seventh-place standing in the 50 free (20.59).

The Wildcats earned fourth-place finishes in both of the night's relay events, posting times of 3:18.70 in the 400 medley relay and 1:22.01 in the 200 free relay.

Action continues Saturday at Norris Aquatics Center with the preliminary round at 9 a.m. and the finals at 5 p.m.
