EVANSTON, Ill. -- Coming off a strong final round at its season-opening and home event last week, Northwestern returns to action Sunday through Tuesday, Oct. 5-7, at Marquette's Erin Hills Intercollegiate at Erin Hills Golf Course.
NU is part of a relatively small 11-team field taking part in the second staging of the tournament, which was founded last year by former Northwestern associate head coach and current Marquette head coach Steve Bailey. Colorado State, Grand Canyon, Kentucky, Marquette, Northern Illinois, SMU, St. John's, UCLA, South Florida and Wisconsin comprise the field along with NU.
Teams will play 18 holes on each of the tournament's three days of competition, with tee times scheduled for each day from 8:30-10:10 a.m. CT off both the first and 10th tees.
Erin Hills is the future home of the 2017 U.S. Open and also was the site of the U.S. Amateur Championship in 2011. The golf course was ranked No. 10 in Golf Digest's latest list of America's 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses. The track will play to a 7,234-yard, par-72 layout for this year's Intercollegiate.
Northwestern opened the season by moving up the standings at its own Windon Memorial Classic held Sept. 21-22 at Evanston Golf Club. After a rough start that saw the Wildcats last among the 15-team field following 18 holes of play, NU moved up seven spots in total to finish eighth overall.
At last year's inaugural Erin Hills Intercollegiate, Northwestern placed fifth among a 15 team field. Junior Josh Jamieson (St. Andrews, Scotland/High School of Dundee) was NU's top finisher in that tournament with a 13th-place 1-over 217.
