EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's Pat Goss has signed a five-year extension and been elevated to Director of Golf and Player Development, while David Inglis has been promoted to head coach in a restructuring of the Wildcats successful men's golf program, Vice President for Athletics and Recreation Jim Phillips announced today.

Goss originally was named Director of Golf with oversight of both the men's and women's programs in addition to his head men's coaching duties in the fall of 2007. He now adds Player Development to his title to reflect his continued day-to-day involvement with skill instruction -- a talent that has made him one of the most sought-after short game coaches in the world.

This restructuring and contract extension will keep him with the Wildcats through the 2018-19 season while allowing Northwestern to promote fifth-year Wildcats assistant Inglis to the position of head men's coach. Inglis will take on more day-to-day program administration in his new role, allowing Goss to also dedicate more time to securing the future of Northwestern golf.

Goss led the Northwestern men to 35 tournament titles, 15 NCAA Regional berths, nine Big Ten team and individual titles, and three NCAA top-10 finishes in his 18-year tenure as head coach. The four-time Big Ten Coach of the Year, 1997 Golfweek National Coach of the Year and Golf Magazine Top-100 Teacher in America alum will continue to coach and instruct the NU men on a daily basis.

"Pat Goss not only is among the most respected coaches and teachers in collegiate golf but in the world golf community as well," Phillips said. "Under his leadership, Northwestern has consistently won championships, produced a steady stream of successful professional golfers and performed at an exemplary level in the classroom and community.

"His leadership has extended to our women's program through the hiring and mentoring of Emily Fletcher, who led Northwestern to its first Big Ten championship in 2013 and back-to-back top-15 NCAA finishes in the last two years. We are excited to keep Pat, his wife Lindy, and his daughters Allison, Claire and Madeline here in Evanston for years to come."

"I am incredibly honored for the extension Jim has given me and the opportunity to continue to lead my alma mater as the Director of Golf and Player Development for another five years," Goss said. "This is a dream job for me, and I have loved every minute I have spent at Northwestern since my time as a student-athlete. I am very proud of the success we have had in both men's and women's golf and could not be more excited for the future of our programs.

"We are also incredibly excited for the opportunity to promote David Inglis to head coach of the men's program. David has done an outstanding job as a recruiter and coach. Most importantly, though, David embraces the values Northwestern Athletics represents for our student-athletes and understands what makes Northwestern such a special place. He is an incredible asset to our program, and I am confident he will lead the men's golf program to the top of the Big Ten and the nation.

"Promoting David to head coach completes what I believe is the best staff in college golf."

The 2014-15 Northwestern season will mark Inglis' first as a collegiate head coach. The Scotland native and 2000 British Boys champion was a four-time champion of the Western Athletic Conference and three-time All-American at Tulsa from 2000-04. After pursuing a career as a touring professional, Inglis spent five years as an instructor and junior golf coach at Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach, Fla., before coming to NU to take his first college coaching job as an assistant prior to the 2010-11 season.

A two-time finalist for the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Jan Strickland Award as the nation's top assistant, Inglis' promotion ensures he will not earn that distinction for a third-straight year.

"I am thankful to Coach Goss and Dr. Phillips for the opportunity to be the head coach of Northwestern men's golf," Inglis said. "Coach Goss could not be a better role model for not only our players but me as a coach and I have learned so much from him in my four years in Evanston. I am excited to continue working with him every day to build a true national force in college golf. I am proud of what our student-athletes have accomplished so far and I know the future is bright for Northwestern golf."

Northwestern has qualified for the NCAA Regionals in all four of Inglis' seasons as a Wildcats assistant. He already has held primary responsibility for recruiting for several years, showcasing tremendous prowess by signing 2013 British Amateur champion and former World No. 1 amateur Matt Fitzpatrick to a National Letter of Intent in 2012. The talented Fitzpatrick would end up leaving NU in January of 2014 to pursue a professional career.

Joining Inglis and Goss for the 2014-15 season as volunteer assistant coach is Tim Streng, an All-American from Western Illinois whom Goss coached throughout his college and professional playing career. Streng currently also serves as a teaching professional with the Wildcat Golf Academy.

Northwestern begins the 2014-15 campaign Sept. 21-22 at its home Windon Memorial Classic being staged this year at Evanston Golf Club in Skokie, Ill.
