EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern enters its 13th NCAA postseason appearance under 16-year head coach Pat Goss as the No. 9 seed at the Bowling Green, Ky., Regional hosted by Western Kentucky May 17-19 at The Club at Olde Stone. The Regional boasts a 14-team field and five individuals with the top five finishers and top individual not on those teams advancing to the 2012 NCAA National Championships at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.

Teams will compete in 18 holes on each of the three days of competition at the 54-hole Regional. Tee times begin at 8 a.m. CT Thursday and Friday, and at 7:30 a.m. CT on Saturday.

NU has a strong recent history of advancing from its Regional with its current seed. The Wildcats most recently moved on as the No. 10 seed last season when an epic final round charge at the Colorado Regional sent NU into the top three and a berth at Karsten Creek, where the Wildcats would finish 22nd in the country. Northwestern also advanced from its Regional in 2009 as the No. 9 seed in the field.

Northwestern is quite familiar with several of the top seeds in the Bowling Green field, most notably having defeated then-No. 1 UCLA in a head-to-head match October 13 ahead of the Wildcats' home Windon Memorial Classic, a tournament which was won by Arkansas.

Northwestern itself has played strong golf in the spring, winning three tournaments. First, the Wildcats captured the Big Ten Match Play Championship for the third-straight year before winning stroke play titles at the Rice Intercollegiate and the NYX Hoosier Invitational. At the Big Ten Championships last week, NU recovered from a disastrous opening round to card the second-best score in the field in each of the final three rounds, climbing all the way back to a third-place finish.

NU's senior class of Eric Chun and Sam Chien leads the Wildcats into the Regional. Chun has eight top-10s and two wins this year while Chien was the runner-up at this year's Big Ten Championships.

THE COURSE

The Course at Olde Stone was designed by internationally acclaimed golf architect Arthur Hills. Created with a deep respect for the land, the course features bentgrass fairways and greens that are dotted with dazzling white sand bunkers. It has been recognized by Golfweek's Best lists in 2010 and 2012.

The par-72 course plays 7,400 yards at its most advanced level.

NORTHWESTERN and the NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP

Northwestern is making its 27th overall NCAA postseason appearance and its 13th under 16-year head coach Pat Goss. NU has advanced to the NCAA National Championships seven times under Goss, including last season. NU has six top-10 national finishes in program history.
