Eric Chun Named All-Big Ten First Team Selection

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern senior Eric Chun (Ansung City, South Korea/International Christian School) has been named an All-Big Ten first team selection, announced today by the conference office.
Chun has had one of Northwestern's best individual single seasons in recent memory, compiling eight top-10 finishes in 10 stroke play events with five top-2 efforts and a pair of victories. His 71.16 stroke average after the regular season ranks fifth in NU single-season history and is the best for a Wildcat since current World No. 1 Luke Donald's 70.76 in 2000-01.
During the spring portion of the schedule, Chun posted top-10 finishes in all five stroke play tournaments. During a three-tournament stretch from the Rice Intercollegiate in late February to the NYX Hoosier Invitational in early April, Chun carded seven-straight rounds in the 60s. He tied for first at Rice, finished second at the Barona Collegiate Cup and ran away with medalist honors at the NYX during the streak.
Chun currently is ranked 47th in the country in the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings and 51st in the nation individually by Golfstat.com. The All-Big Ten honor is Chun's second after he was named to the second team as a freshman in 2009 -- the same year he won the Big Ten individual championship. Coupled with 2012 Asian Tour winner David Lipsky's first-team nods in 2010 and 2011, Northwestern has had an All-Big Ten first team selection in each of the last three seasons.
Also on Tuesday, senior Sam Chien (San Diego, Calif./Mt. Carmel), who finished second at this season's Big Ten Championships, was named Northwestern's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree.
