Eric Chun Named Big Ten Golfer of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. -- For the second-straight week, the Big Ten Golfer of the Week is a Wildcat. Northwestern senior Eric Chun (Ansung City, South Korea/International Christian School) earns the current honor after leading NU to the team title at the Rice Intercollegiate that wrapped up Tuesday.
Chun was the only player in the entire field to fire three rounds under par, concluding with a final round 3-under 69 that left him tied for first place overall at 6-under 210. Though he eventually would fall on the third hole of a sudden death playoff for medalist honors, Chun's score helped Northwestern to a four-stroke victory over its closest competition in the 15-team field.
Chun now has four top-10 finishes and three top-2 finishes in six stroke play starts this season. He has a 70.94 stroke average and 11 rounds at par or better out of 18 played this season. The 2009 Big Ten individual champion is a two-time conference Golfer of the Week.
For Northwestern as a team, the victory was its second in a row after claiming its third-straight Big Ten Match Play Championship Feb. 10-11 in Bradenton, Fla. Following that win, senior Sam Chien (San Diego, Calif./Mt. Carmel) was named the conference's Golfer of the Week.
NU also is the first two-time team champion in the 12-year history of the Rice Intercollegiate after previously winning the event in 2003.
