LAKESIDE, Calif. -- Northwestern concluded the 16-team Barona Collegiate Cup hosted by San Diego State in fifth place Friday after firing a final round 9-over 369 at the Barona Creek Golf Club.

The Wildcats finished the 54-hole tournament at 24-over 1,104 (362-373-369), six strokes behind fourth-place Nevada. Northwestern entered the final round in fourth position, but No. 1 ranked Oregon jumped NU to end up third overall. Host and 35th-ranked San Diego State won the tournament on its home course by a whopping 22 shots.

The Barona Collegiate Cup teams fielded six players each, with the low five scores in each round counting toward the squad's total.

Sophomore Eric Chun (Ansung City, South Korea/International Christian School) and junior Josh Dupont (Poway, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) led Northwestern in the individual standings with 17th-place overall finishes after the pair finished at 3-over 219. Chun (72-75-72) made birdie Friday on No. 6, bogey on No. 12, then alternated birdie-bogey on Nos. 15 through 18 to record his final-round even-par 72.

Dupont (74-73-72) opened his final round like a house on fire, making consecutive birdies on Nos. 6, 7 and 8. His back side began, however, with a triple-bogey at No. 10 before he carded bogies on Nos. 15 and 16 as well. Showing resiliency, Dupont came back to achieve birdies on both Nos. 17 and 18 to conclude his even-par total.

Junior David Lipsky (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) tied for 22nd overall after a final-round 2-over 74 left him at 4-over 220 (72-74-74) for the tournament. Lipsky's Friday round included three birdies and three bogies, leaving an early double-bogey on his second hole of the day to account for his 2-over score.

Freshman Nick Losole (Scottsdale, Ariz./Scottsdale Notre Dame) tied for 30th as an individual at 6-over 222 (70-76-76). He stood at 3-over after three holes Friday before a pair of birdies brought him back to 1-over. Another pair of bogies and a double-bogey on his 54th hole contributed to his final round 4-over 76.

Senior Jonathan Bowers (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) tied for 40th overall with an 8-over 224 (74-75-75). On Friday, Bowers compiled three birdies and three bogies in his first 10 holes of play before another bogey and a double left him at 3-over in the final round.

Sophomore Sam Chien (San Diego, Calif./Mt. Carmel) rounded out Northwestern's team effort with a 7-over 79 in the final round to place him 69th in the field at 14-over 230 (74-77-79).

Ravi Patel (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) and Matt Denison (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) participated in the tournament as individuals. Patel shot a 54-hole total of 19-over 235 (75-80-80) and Denison carded a 21-over 237 (79-80-78).

Northwestern returns to action April 10-11 at the Kepler Intercollegiate in Columbus, Ohio. The Wildcats are the defending champions at the event.
