Northwestern Opens Season at Navy Fall Golf Classic

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Coming off its sixth appearance at the NCAA Championships under head coach Pat Goss, Northwestern opens the 2009-10 season Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 12-13, at the Navy Fall Golf Classic in Annapolis, Md.

The tournament features 15 schools and 17 teams, with host Navy fielding three separate squads for the event. Comprising the field are Brown, Delaware, Drexel, defending champion George Washington, Iona, La Salle, Navy, North Dakota State, Northwestern, Seton Hall, Siena, Saint Francis, Saint Joseph's, Temple and Villanova.

The competitors will play 36 holes on the 6,611-yard, par-71 U.S. Naval Academy Golf Course with one round each on Saturday and Sunday. Tee times begin at 7:30 a.m. CT/8:30 a.m. ET on both days.

This year marks the 16th playing of the Navy Fall Classic, which has had 12 different winners in its history.

Northwestern's lineup this weekend will feature 2009 Big Ten champion Eric Chun (Ansung City, South Korea/International Christian School), 2009 All-Big Ten second-team selection David Lipsky (La Canada, Calif./La Canada), 2009 NCAA Championships first-round leader Jonathan Bowers (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson), 2009 NCAA Championships participant Sam Chien (San Diego, Calif./Mt. Carmel) and freshman Nick Losole (Scottsdale, Ariz./Scottsdale Notre Dame), who was the 15th-ranked golfer in the class of 2009 by Golfweek/Titleist.
