SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Junior David Lipsky (La Canada, Calif./La Canada), freshman Eric Chun (Ansung City, South Korea/International Christian School) and junior Jonathan Bowers (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) all are in the top-five at the Cowboy Classic hosted by Wyoming after the first two rounds, helping Northwestern to second place in the team standings entering Tuesday's final 18 holes.
The Wildcats are tied with Oregon State in the 22-team field with a 36-hole total of even-par 560 (287-273) following Monday's first two rounds at the par-70, 7,133 yard Talking Stick Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. The two schools are two strokes behind leader UC Davis and four strokes in front of fourth-place UTEP.
Lipsky fired rounds of 70 and 67 to enter Tuesday at 3-under 137, tied for second place and four strokes off the individual lead. Chun is in fourth at 2-under 138 (71-67) while Bowers is tied for fifth at 1-under 139 (72-67). The trio of third-round 67's match Northwestern's best individual score of the year, achieved last week at the FAU Spring Break Championship by both Bowers and Josh Dupont (Poway, Calif./Poway) on a par-71 course.
Dupont rounds out NU's scorers in the tournament after a first-day total of 6-over 146 (74-72). Senior Andy DeKeuster (Franksville, Wis./Racine Luthern) also is participating, firing a two-round total of 9-over 149 (75-74).
The Cowboy Classic concludes Tuesday with the final round. Live scoring is not available for the tournament.
