Big Ten Championships on Tap for Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern travels to University Park, Pa., this weekend, May 1-3 for the 90th Big Ten Men's Golf Championships hosted by Penn State on the par-72, 7,150-yard Blue Course. The Wildcats have had a tremendous amount of success in the event's recent history, finishing in the top four in nine of the past 12 years with four team and three individual titlists.
The tournament will consist of 72 holes of championship play, beginning with two rounds Friday, May 1, before one round each on Saturday and Sunday. Scoring will be five players with the lowest four scores counting toward the team score.
Northwestern's individuals have each proven the ability to excel in tournaments during the season. Junior David Lipsky (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) owns a 72.33 scoring average entering the weekend, currently ranking as the eighth-best in school single-season history. He has six top-20 finishes and 12 rounds at par or better on the year.
Freshman Eric Chun (Ansung City, South Korea/International Christian School) has made waves in his first collegiate season. Chun has four top-20 finishes including a sixth-place effort at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate to help Northwestern to the team championship in that event.
Junior Jonathan Bowers (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) and sophomore Josh Dupont (Poway, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) have had breakout tournaments during the spring season, with Bowers winning second place at the FAU Spring Break Championship while Dupont was the runner-up at the Kepler Intercollegiate.
The quartet of Lipsky, Chun, Bowers and Dupont all have fired rounds of 67 on the year, a career-best number for all four Wildcats.
Rounding out Northwestern's lineup at the Big Ten Championships is Ravi Patel (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley), who had his best finish of the year during the spring at the FAU Spring Break Championship.
