RIO GRANDE, P.R. -- Senior Kyle Moore (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) fired a final-round 3-under 69 to lead Northwestern Sunday at the Puerto Rico Classic, but the Wildcats slipped three more spots to finish in 12th place at the star-studded tournament.
In a field featuring 13 teams ranked in the Golfweek/Sagarin top 50, Northwestern finished ahead of No. 39 Kent State and No. 41 Minnesota. The Wildcats shot a final round 9-over 297 to finish at 20-over 884 (290-297-297) for the tournament, three strokes behind No. 50 Texas in 11th place.
Moore finished in a tie for 20th place overall with a 2-over 218 (74-75-69) after recording NU's best round of the event during Sunday's play. Sophomore David Lipsky (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) ended up tied for 31st with a 4-over 220 (70-74-76).
Senior Dan Doyle (Rochester, Mich./Stoney Creek) tied for 43rd at 7-over par (75-72-76), while freshman Josh Dupont (Poway, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) rounded out NU's scorers with a three-day total of 9-over 225 (73-76-76).
Northwestern returns to action Sunday-Monday, March 9-10, at the General Hackler Championship in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
