EVANSTON, Ill. -
A stellar field awaits the Northwestern men's golf team as it competes in the Olympia Fields Country Club/Fighting Illini Invitational Golf Tournament this weekend in Olympia Fields, Ill.
Of the 12 teams competing in the event, seven squads are ranked in the Golf World/Nike Top 25 Coaches' Poll. This year's field consists of No. 17 Arizona State, Central Florida, No. 13 Duke, No. 8 Florida State, Illinois, Indiana, Northwestern, No. 7 Oklahoma State, Purdue, No. 1 Stanford, No. 15 Tennessee and No. 23 Texas. The Wildcats are receiving votes in the poll in addition to Indiana and Purdue.
Duke is the defending tournament champion, while Stanford captured last season's NCAA title.
The 54-hole invitational on the par-70, 7,200-yard course will consist of 36 holes being played Sunday with the final round being held Monday. Olympia Fields has been the site of 16 major championships, including the 2003 U.S. Open.
The Wildcats are coming of a season-opening 13th-place finish at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate hosted by Indiana University last weekend. Kyle Moore placed 16th to pace all Northwestern golfers, including carding and even-par 71 Sunday to jump 10 spots from his standing following Saturday's first two rounds.
