EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern is seeking its second straight Big Ten Championship when it travels to Columbus for the 88th Big Ten Men's Golf Championships. The 'Cats protected their home turf well when they hosted last year's Big Ten Championships at Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest. Trailing heading into the final round, the 'Cats rallied behind Chris Wilson's final-round 68 to earn their first championship since 2001 as Wilson took home medalist honors.
This time around, the Wildcats are hoping to start their second streak of consecutive Big Ten championships during the 11-year reign of head coach Pat Goss. Behind All-American Luke Donald, Northwestern won three straight titles from 1999 through 2001. Overall, Northwestern has won eight Big Ten championships.
In his first 10 years as Northwestern's head coach, Goss has led the Wildcats to four first-place finishes (1999, 2000, 2001, 2006), one second-place finish (1997), two third-place finishes (1998, 2005), two fourth-place finishes (2002, 2003) and one seventh-place finish (2004).
The 2007 Big Ten Men's Golf Championships will be 72 holes of championship play. Scoring for the event will be five players with the lowest four scores counting toward the team score.
