'Cats Now in Third Place at Seminole Intercollegiate

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Northwestern remained in the hunt for the Seminole Intercollegiate title on Monday by shooting a 2-over 290, and is seven strokes (294-290=584) back of second-round leader North Carolina (296-281=577), the highest-ranked team (No. 12) in the 15-team tournament.
The Wildcats, ranked 28th in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin index, were paced by another pair of Columbus, Ohio, products on Monday. Freshman Jonathan Bowers (Bishop Watterson), who is gunning for his first college title, shot a 1-under 71 for the second round and is now even (73-71=144) for the tournament. He is in 10th place and three strokes behind East Tennessee State's Rhys Davies, the nation's eighth-ranked player.
Senior Chris Wilson (Dublin Coffman) fired a 2-under 70 on Monday and is in 12th place with a 1-over 145 (75-70). Junior Kyle Moore (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto), who led NU with a 72 in the first round, carded a 4-over 76 today and is in 28th place with a 4-over 148 (72-76).
Senior David Merkow (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead Union) recorded five birdies on his final 10 holes, helping offset a pair of double bogeys and finish at 1-over for the day. He is in 25th place and 3-over (74-73=147) for the tournament.
The Wildcats, who are in front of seven other top-50 clubs, including the 24th-ranked Seminoles, trail second-place Auburn (No. 30) by six strokes.
