Recap |  Box Score

Northwestern head coach Bill Carmody

Opening statement...
"This is a very tough loss for us on our home court. They deserved to win. They came in and it seemed like they were ready to go from the beginning. It just seemed like we were a little out of sync. They may have had something to do with that, I'm not sure. We hit a three to go down by eight at half, before the buzzer. We came out in the second half, we got our hands on balls and we had some breakouts. If we didn't turn them over and score, then it seemed like they scored. They ran their stuff. I don't know how many turnovers they had. It's not that we weren't able to stop them, they scored 75 or whatever they had against us. It was different guys. They were real well balanced. (Peter Sullivan) hit some big shots out of the corner and had a nice drive. It builds confidence. I just thought they deserved to win. They out-played us."

On the play of Sterling Williams...
"Sterling did a nice job at the top of the 1-3-1 zone. He was the beneficiary of some steals and breakaways. Beyond that, I think one of the first plays of the game, he got the ball, worked hard and scored inside. He may be the one bright spot."

Brown head coach Craig Robinson

Opening statement...
"These guys played a tremendous game. We were talking all week since. We had a very long layoff since our last game. The tough thing about long layoffs is that you can't have a good practice every day. For the first time since I've been at Brown, this group has had a full week of not just good practices, but great practices. What you saw out there was the product of great practicing and hard work. You have to remember that Northwestern is not at full strength. With Kevin Coble, this is completely different game. This is really important for our program. One of my goals is trying to change the culture and build a culture of winning. Quite honestly, we have a lot of a recruits in the Chicago area that we want to show that we're in it for real."

On Peter Sullivan's play...
"Peter [Sullivan] was not going to get much time today. No one has a good game when they come back home. He was going to get some minutes but he wasn't going to get as many minutes as he got. When Mark MacDonald got into foul trouble, it threw off our whole game plan so we had to put him in. I can't take credit for coming up with this great game plan of throwing a freshman at them and expecting him to hit just about every single shot he took."

On Brown's turnovers during the beginning of the second half...
"It wasn't sleepy. They took the ball from us. They came out very aggressive. It comes back to the culture of learning how to win. We played a good 20 minutes and we needed to have a good start. We committed two, maybe three, turnovers right in a row because of their pressure. These guys play pros every single game. They're used to playing against Michigan State and Indiana and Illinois. They certainly weren't daunted by a little nine-point lead that we had. They were going to come out and smack us in the mouth and that's what they did. What we're happy about is that these guys met the challenge, met the physicality. Again, it's just really important for our program."
