EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern made its debut in the rankings of the latest GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches Poll, earning the No. 25 ranking after a strong showing against a loaded field at the CordeValle Collegiate.
The 'Cats earned 38 points in the poll, nine more than Charlotte, which leads the others receiving votes. Alabama maintained its number-one position in the poll, garnering 11 first-place votes.
Two teams the Wildcats beat in fall events, Oklahoma State and UCLA, both received first-place votes and are ranked third and sixth, respectively.
In their last event of the 2006 calendar season, the 'Cats put forth arguably their best fall effort against a CordeValle Collegiate field filled with highly ranked teams. Northwestern finished the 54-hole event in a tie for fifth with Lamar, which is ranked 11th in the GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches Poll.
Junior Dan Doyle (Rochester, Mich./Stoney Creek) led the way for the Wildcats, finishing in a tie for fourth individually at 10-under 206.
The Wildcats begin their spring season in February when they travel outside of the continental United States for the Puerto Rico Classic.
