EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern Head Coach Pat Goss has another pair of highly touted golfers coming into the fold for the 2007-08 season after signing National Letters of Intent this week.
Josh Dupont (Poway, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) and Ravi Patel (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) have chosen to attend Northwestern after proving themselves on the local and national levels as junior golfers.
On the national stage, Dupont qualified for the US Amateur Championship in 2006, participated in the 2004 Junior Ryder Cup and is the 26th-ranked player in the class of 2007 according to Golfweek Magazine. He also was honored as an AJGA HP Scholastic Junior All-American in both 2005 and 2006 and has finished in the top 15 at a pair of big junior events (2006 Westerfield PGA Junior and 2006 AJGA Rolex Tournament of Champions).
At the high school level, Dupont was named the 2006 Western League Player of the Year, the 2005 San Diego Tribune Player of the Year, the 2005 CIF individual San Diego Champion and was inducted into the San Diego Hall of Champions in 2005.
Academically, Dupont is the senior class president at Phil Mickelson's prep alma mater, Cathedral Catholic, and a member of the National Honor Society.
Patel has found himself on the leaderboard at numerous Midwest and national events, finishing in the top-15 at five AJGA events and earning a pair of victories at the 2006 AJGA Midwest Players Junior Championship and 2006 FCWT Cog Hill Classic. The Illinois native also qualified for both the 2005 and 2006 USGA Junior Amateur and advanced to the match-play portion in 2006.
Like Dupont, Patel is highly ranked in the 2007 recruiting class, earning the distinction of the top-ranked player in Illinois according to Junior Golf Scoreboard and is the second-ranked player in the Midwest according to Golfweek Magazine.
The two newest Northwestern golfers will join a squad that currently is ranked 31st by Golfweek Magazine and just wrapped up a solid fall season, beating both the defending NCAA national champion Oklahoma State and 12th-ranked UCLA in events this fall.
