EVANSTON, Ill. -- Following an impressive summer of individual play, Northwestern's men's golf team opens its fall season this weekend by competing in the 51st annual William H. Tucker Invitational. The 54-hole event is being played on the par-72, 7,350-yard University of New Mexico Championship Course in Albuquerque.
NU players enter the 2005 season on the heels of a successful summer, highlighted by senior Dillon Dougherty's runner-up finish at the 2005 U.S. Amateur Championship. Overall, Northwestern returns its entire lineup from a year ago.
The Wildcats need to carry over their strong play from the summer for success this weekend. The invitational's 20-team field features Arizona, BYU, New Mexico, San Diego State, UNLV and Texas A&M--all participants at last year's NCAA Championships. Northwestern is the only Big Ten team competing in the event--comprised almost entirely of West Coast schools.
Last year's Tucker Invitational was won by Arizona. Past champions of the Tucker include PGA professionals Tiger Woods (Stanford) and Matt Kuchar (Georgia Tech), as well as NCAA Champions Alejandro Canizares (Arizona State) and Ryan Moore (UNLV).
Results can be found at New Mexico Lobos Men's Golf or Tucker Invitational.
