EVANSTON, Ill. -- Weather permitting, Northwestern's men's golf team closes out its regular season at the 36th Annual Robert Kepler Intercollegiate Saturday and Sunday, April 23 and 24 in Columbus, Ohio. The 17-team event is being played at Ohio State University's Scarlet Course, the site of two NCAA Championships.
NU can help improve its regional standing with a strong performance this weekend. Four teams ranked ahead of NU in its region -- Michigan State, Purdue, Xavier and Indiana -- are playing in the tournament. Michigan State, rated No. 21 in the Golfweek/Sagarin index, is the highest-ranked team in the event. Northwestern enters the tournament ranked 65th.
The tournament features seven Big Ten schools and nine from the Mid-American Conference. Xavier of the Atlantic-10 Conference rounds out the field.
Indiana is the only Big Ten school other than Ohio State to ever win the Kepler Intercollegiate. Since the tourney's inception in 1969, Ohio State has won the title 23 times. Xavier was crowned champion last year and enters this year's event ranked 39th.
The Ohio State University Scarlet Course measures 7,251 yards and is par 72. It last played host to an NCAA event in 2002.
The 'Cats are scheduled to play 36 holes Saturday and 18 Sunday.
