Wildcats Play In Notre Dame Invitational/Central Regional Preview

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern's men's golf team continues its fall season when it takes part in the 54-hole Notre Dame Invitational/Central Regional Preview Friday through Sunday, Sept. 17-19. The Wildcats will get a sneak peek at Notre Dame's Warren Golf Course, host of the 2005 NCAA Central Regional tournament, on Saturday and Sunday.
Fourteen other teams will join the 'Cats this weekend in the Notre Dame Invitational/Central Regional Preview, which tees off Friday at 9 a.m. (8 CDT). Teams will play 18 holes per day during the event. The opening round will be played approximately 45 minutes from South Bend Ind., at Lost Dunes Golf Club in Bridgman, Mich., before returning to Notre Dame's campus for the second and third rounds.
Last week the 'Cats finished 10th at the Inverness Intercollegiate. Sophomore David Merkow (Harland, Wis./Arrowhead Union) led the way with a 19th-place finish. Merkow closed with an even-par 71 to finish at 11-over 224 (77-76-71) for the tournament. Freshman Dan Doyle (Rochester, Mich./Stoney Creek), making his collegiate debut, finished 25th.
Lost Dunes Golf Club is located near the southeastern coast of Lake Michigan. The course has been ranked No. 41 on Golfweek magazine's list of the best modern courses in the country and will play as a par-70, 6,875-yard layout. The Warren Golf Course was recently named the No. 12 collegiate circuit in the country by Golfweek. The wooded course will play as par-70, 7,011-yards.
