EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern University head coach Pat Goss has announced that Harmen Hubert (Bosch en Duin, Netherlands) has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Wildcats. Hubert, who hails from the Netherlands, joins early signees Dan Doyle (Rochester, Mich./Stoney Creek) and Kyle Moore (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) to compose Northwestern's 2004 recruiting class.
"Harmen is a great addition to an already strong recruiting class," says Goss.
Hubert's golf resum? boasts impressive international playing experience. He has been a member of the Royal Dutch National Team since 1998, and he represented the Netherlands on the 2003 European Boys Team. Hubert earned a third-place finish at the 2003 National Dutch Under-17 Championship. He also competed in the Under-21 Championship and placed eighth.
"Having competed on national teams for the Netherlands has given him international exposure, and that will help him at the collegiate level," Goss acknowledged.
Hubert is currently part of the International Junior Golf Academy in Hilton Head Island, S.C., and is having solid success on its tour. The Academy offers a year-round golf and academic program, and has drawn students from 33 states and 23 countries since its inception in 1995.
In the International Junior Golf Tour's 2003 season-opening event at Sea Pines Resort, site of the PGA Tour's MCI Heritage, the Dutchman finished in an eighth place tie. The next week at Oldfield Golf Club, Hubert posted rounds of 72-71 to claim the tournament title. His 1-under finish bested the field by three strokes. He also has fourth-, sixth- and 11th-place finishes on the IJGT tour this season.
"Harmen is a strong student who fits the mold of the type of student-athletes around which we have built our program," Goss says. "He has a strong appreciation for the golf program at Northwestern as well as the school itself."
