BANDON, Ore. -- Heavy rains forced the suspension of the Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge's second round Monday afternoon, but not before Northwestern junior Bryson Young (Reno, Nev./Galena) carded a 2-under 70 on the first 18 holes to take the tournament's individual lead.
The tournament, in its inaugural year, will be shortened to 36 holes, with the final round scheduled for Tuesday, weather permitting.
As a team, the Wildcats are tied for third place with USC, and stand seven strokes back of tourney-leading UCLA. Northwestern is first among the seven Big Ten teams entered in the tournament.
Young fired a 33 on the front nine and a 37 on the back nine for his 2-under 70. He holds a one-stroke lead over Arizona State's Alejandro Canizares and USC's Taylor Wood.
Sophomore Chris Wilson (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) is in 12th place after shooting a 2-over 74 on Monday. Senior Dillon Dougherty (Woodland, Calif./Woodland) is in 21st place at 4-over (76).
Sophomore David Merkow (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead Union) and freshman Dan Doyle (Rochester, Mich./Stoney Creek) are 43rd and 60th, respectively, at 6-over and 9-over.
