Evanston, Ill. - Northwestern's men's golf team begins its 2002 fall season at the Inverness Intercollegiate Invitational Monday, Sept. 16 and Tuesday, Sept. 17 in Toledo, Ohio.

The 14-team event will take place at the venerable Inverness Club, which has hosted four U.S. Opens and two PGA Championships. It is hosting next year's U.S. Senior Open. Players are scheduled to complete 36 holes Monday, with 18 holes to follow Tuesday. NU is one of three Big Ten squads in the field, with Illinois and Michigan State also competing.

Probables for the NU lineup include senior Scott Harrington (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) and junior Tom Johnson (Weaverville, Calif./Del Campo), two of NU's three leading scorers during the 2001-02 season. Both golfers qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship this past summer.

Joining Harrington and Johnson are junior Casey Strunk (Phoenix, Ariz./Thunderbird) and senior Bjorn Widerstedt (Vasteras, Sweden). Sophomore Dillon Dougherty (Woodland, Calif./Woodland) will make his NU debut Monday.
