John Cleary Named Assistant Coach for Men's Golf

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern University men's golf coach Pat Goss announced the hiring of John Cleary as his assistant coach recently.
Cleary is actually making a return to Northwestern and college coaching. He was an assistant with the women's program in 1998-99 and has been a volunteer assistant with them the last two years. He also worked with the men's and women's teams at Loyola.
Cleary has been a teaching professional at the Glen View Club in Golf, Ill., since 1988, and a PGA Class A Professional since 1991. In 1998, he was the Illinois Section of the PGA Assistant of the Year, and he has been an Illinois PGA Executive Board member since 1998.
Cleary also has established himself as a player. In 2000, he finished second at the Illinois PGA sectional championship, which qualified him for a spot in the 2000 Western Open. He is also a two-time member of the Radix Cup, which features the top professionals in Illinois against the top amateurs in Illinois.
Cleary graduated from Kansas in 1989.
