EVANSTON, Ill. - Kevin Lynch, a former Northwestern golfer who has been serving as an assistant coach for both Wildcat golf programs the last three years, was named the Director of Golf Operations at the University of Richmond. He will replace Nat Withers, who is retiring as the men's golf coach for the Spiders after 24 years.
Lynch's duties at Richmond will include overseeing the men's golf program and building the women's program. He will begin working at Richmond on July 1, staying with the Northwestern teams until the end of the 2001 spring season.
Lynch has helped oversee the rise to prominence of both Northwestern golf programs. During his tenure he has seen one NCAA individual champion (Luke Donald, 1999) and the first NCAA Championship appearance by an NU women's team (2000).
A 1997 graduate of Northwestern, Lynch earned a Bachelor of Science degree in communication studies with a minor in business institutions. A four-year letterwinner on the golf team, he served as a co-captain during his senior year and helped lead the Wildcats to a seventh-place NCAA finish. Following graduation, Lynch played professionally for eighteen months on various tours in the United States, Europe and South America.
